So you’re finally ready to buy your business’ first server? Congratulations on a growing company! Trying to decide which type of server can be a bit confusing. Many people ask us what the difference is between blade refurbished servers and rack refurbished servers is. We’re here to set the record straight so buying your next refurbished server is easy!
We all know how quickly computing power has evolved over the past thirty - forty years. Currently, blade servers are the most efficient computer devices and are quite often used by businesses as the backbone of the office computer system. While blade servers are gaining in popularity over rack mounted servers in large office operations, both provide similar computing power.
However, the devices do different in some key ways:
Rack mounted servers are computers that contain applications and operating systems necessary for operations. All you have to do is plug the rack mounted server into a standard outlet and conner the network cables. Voila!
Blade mounted servers don’t contain all the components of a computer and must be mounted in a blade enclosure. This includes power supplies and networking components. The blade enclosure can then be mounted in a rack.
Now, each system definitely has it’s advantages, but the rack mounted servers often offer greater flexibility. While the blade enclosure includes only one power supply and cooling unit, as well as other components that are shared among the blade units, the rack mounted servers each have their own power supply and cooling system, as well as other components, which allows the user to configure each rack server unit individually.
