Myths about Refurbished Servers

Posted by Amanda Hudick on 4th Apr 2016

It is a sad truth that we live in an increasingly throw-away society. The mindset that new is always better pervades nearly every facet of our lives. It isn’t entirely our fault that we are this way; it is in the best interest of companies to encourage this kind of behavior because it helps their bottom line, and the advertising that floods the market is designed to influence us to buy new and buy often.

One of the side effects of this type of advertising is that, over time, we actually begin to believe the messages we are being bombarded with. Pretty soon, logic and thrift go out the window, and practices that are responsible and fiscally sound are no longer the rule of the day. Furthermore, negative impressions begin to take their place. Nowhere is this more prevalent than with refurbished technology. Buying refurbished has many advantages and benefits that get lost in the midst of a few prevailing myths. But ServerWorlds is here to lay those myths to rest once and for all.

Myth #1: Refurbished servers and parts are damaged or defective.

This is perhaps one of the most common myths about refurbished hardware, and the reality of the matter is that is just isn’t true. Much of the hardware that is offered as refurbished is perfectly sound and in working order, but the companies and businesses they used to belong to have upgraded to newer hardware. Some organizations upgrade their entire network as often as every three years, selling their old equipment to refurbishing companies who restore it to factory settings and prepare them for resale.

Myth #2: Refurbished hardware is unreliable.

Many people assume that because refurbished servers have been gently used that they are somehow worn out and unreliable. But hardware refurbishing companies test the hardware multiple times, which means that any piece of equipment coming out of that process is actually more likely to be reliable. Quality assurance is crucial to the sale of refurbished servers; we want you to have faith in every refurbished HP server in our warehouse and know that it’s going to get the job done.
